Awareness and Meditation Training

At the heart of the world’s mystical traditions lies a simple truth: what you are, what you really are in the heart of your hearts, is this. Just this, right here — what all of this is. Awake, and alive. Words like awakening, liberation, oneness, love, knowing, being, enlightenment all point to this simple, honest truth. You are already one with all that is. It couldn’t be otherwise. Learning to recognise this, to carry it in your heart in each moment, and to act from it, transforms human life into something absolutely inexpressibly wonderful.

There are many helpful ways of teaching, and practicing this. While historically, most paths have been strictly defined and restricted, and aimed towards one particular idea of what enlightenment is and what the ideal human is like, I don’t find that helpful today. After all, all those practices and paths have worked for some people, and yet they seldom agree with each other. Yes, there are progressions in practice, and yes, it helps - it’s almost necessary - to learn from someone more experienced than you are, nevertheless there’s simply too much variety in human consciousness for any one path or practice to be the path or practice.

And so, I take a student-centric, guidance-based approach to teaching meditation, and to the progression of a meditative path, with each step aimed at integration with your day-to-day life and consciousness.

Doing so helps highlight two aspects of awakening today: firstly, that awakening is a natural development in human consciousness, and can become almost ordinary for adults in our society. At the same time, awakening manifests in unique ways in different people — no one’s life looks quite the same as another’s, and so neither does any one’s expression of awakening look quite like any other’s.

I work with people at various stages of the path — from establishing a meditation practice in the first place, to making the kinds of permanent shifts that change the whole nature of your life. We’ll find together where you are in your journey, and what might be helpful for you in moving forwards.

All along the way, I help people out of stuck points in their practice, and whose lineage may not be working for them anymore — a surprisingly common problem.

And while everything above so far is focused on meditation itself, I teach meditation expressly within the context of being a Consciousness Guide. I take a Trauma-informed approach, an adult-developmental approach, and an embodied approach, one that recognizes these and various other dimensions of human consciousness, how they impact a meditation practice, and how a meditation practice can impact them.

In particular, I work with a strong intersubjective focus. While we have tended to look at meditation and awakening as something that happens to a person, whether alone on a pillow or - if in relationship - then to a guru or a teacher — one of the most fascinating things happening today is that relationships themselves can wake up, and there are all sorts of ways of experimenting with this. You can check out the relevant pages on this site for more information about that in particular.

Meditation is not a liberation from this life — it’s a liberation into this life. You can still reach for your dreams while on the path of awakening, and you can still live your normal life. I won’t pretend this is easier, or simpler, but it’s infinitely more powerful, and an approach much more suited for our actual modern lives.
